Sonoran Sound sources the very best sound meditation and therapy instruments from around the world. Based in the heart of the Sonoran Desert, we can ship our instruments nearly anywhere or arrange for local pick-up. We are not a big warehouse. In fact, we work from our home in Downtown Phoenix's Alvarado Historic District. Our small size allows us to work one-on-one with every client and to deliver personalized service with very little overhead. This translates to the best prices available anywhere.
About Our Name
We have a deep connection to our Earth, especially the Sonoran Desert. In Spanish, the word "sonora" literally means "sonorous" or "loud." The Sonoran Desert is our home and it can be quite an amazing sonic experience--everything from our incredible monsoon rain storms in the summer, the sounds of our desert birds, singing insects, and howling coyotes at night. Being in the desert is a sound meditation all to itself and inspires us in the creation of sound. The indigenous peoples of this land held this place with the utmost respect, which we honor in our teachings. Sonoran Sound is a way for us to honor the rich traditions of sound while bridging our love of instruments and traditions from all over the world.
Founded by Sound Practitioners
Founded by Hamid Jabbar, a teacher and
sound practitioner based in Phoenix, Arizona (in the heart of the Sonoran Desert), we are dedicated to what we do. Not only do we use the instruments in our own practice, we have become experts on every aspect of their care and maintenance. For clients in Phoenix, we will even help you set up your instruments if you want and do a small ceremony to welcome your instruments to your family. Acquiring instruments is a wonderfully self-less act because they are used to help others. Seldom do we meet practitioners who desire to keep their instruments private--most want to share and help others. So do we.
Hamid has spent the better part of his adult life investigating Eastern philosophical and practical systems of Yoga, Ayurveda, Buddhism, Thai bodywork, Japanese energy work, and other traditional healing methods. Hamid continues to learn on a daily basis. Hamid’s formal Western education includes a Doctorate degree from UCLA and Bachelor of Music degree from NYU. He holds the highest available designation with Yoga Alliance as an E-RYT 500, certifying over 500 hours of training and 2,000+ hours of teaching. Hamid co-created the 200-hour and 300-hour Yoga Teacher Training Programs at Urban Yoga and co-directed the program from 2014-2017.
